Why home visits matter on Portland

Portland is a proud, tight-knit community, and that’s one of its strengths. But when everyone knows everyone, it can make reaching out for help feel exposed. Nobody wants to be seen heading to a therapist’s door.

Getting off the island for appointments can be a hassle too, especially if you don’t drive or you work odd hours. So I come to you. We talk privately in your own home, and it’s nobody’s business but yours.

Kind words from people I’ve worked with

Was great having Mark come to my home. It helped a lot to have control and feel a lot better in my mind. Mark’s a very calm person and I felt safe with the help. He has a very understanding nature.

Andrew

Was sceptical at first, but as soon as I started to relax and embrace the situation it really worked! Wish I’d done something sooner.

Eli

Mark exceeded all my expectations and was brilliant in the way he encouraged me to communicate, and with considerable care and thought addressed the issues I raised.

Questions from people on Portland

Do you really come over to Portland?

Yes. I visit homes right across the island, including Fortuneswell, Chiswell, Castletown, Grove, Easton, Weston, Wakeham and Southwell. You don’t need to travel into Weymouth or Dorchester.

Will people know I’m having therapy?

Only if you choose to tell them. Sessions happen privately in your own home, and everything you share stays between us. The only exception is the rare case where there’s a serious risk of harm.

Can you help with grief?

Yes. Grief can show up in all sorts of ways, not just tears. It might be numbness, anger, exhaustion or struggling to carry on as normal. Counselling gives you a safe space to work through it at your own pace.

How much does it cost?

The same as everywhere I cover: £75 for a one-hour session at home, £300 for a block of five, £60 for Blue Light Card holders, and £30 for a half-hour phone session. Your first chat is free.

Need help urgently?

I’m not an emergency service. If you’re in crisis, call 999 or go to A&E at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. You can also call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night.

Whenever you’re ready, I’m here

Call or text me for a free, no-pressure chat, or drop me a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
