Why Coping Isn’t the Same as Being Fine | Dorset Counselling and Hypnotherapy

There’s a certain type of person who never quite gets round to asking for help. They’re busy, they’re capable, and they’ve usually got a lot of other people depending on them. If you’re reading this in a rare quiet five minutes, you might be one of them.

Coping gets treated like a finish line. You got through the week, you kept the plates spinning, nothing fell over. But coping is often just effort that nobody can see, including sometimes you. It shows up in the small stuff first: the short temper over nothing, the tight chest on a Sunday evening, lying in bed exhausted with a brain that suddenly wants to discuss everything.

None of that is a breakdown. That’s rather the problem, because there’s no obvious moment where you decide enough is enough. It just carries on, and you get better and better at carrying it, until carrying it is normal.

Here’s the useful bit. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from talking to someone. A lot of the work I do with people in Dorchester and across Dorset isn’t dramatic at all. It’s helping someone work out what’s actually driving the stress rather than just managing the symptoms, and giving their mind a proper way to switch off instead of running at half-throttle all day. Hypnotherapy is particularly good at that last part, because it works with the automatic stuff: the reactions that fire before you’ve had a chance to think.

If you want somewhere to start today, try this. Pick one thing on your mental list and either do it, diarise it, or drop it. Not all of them, just one. Half of what wears people down isn’t the tasks themselves, it’s the low hum of holding them all in your head at once.

And if you’d like a hand with the rest, I offer counselling and hypnotherapy that comes to you, anywhere in Dorchester, Bournemouth, Poole, Shaftesbury, Yeovil and the bits of Dorset in between. Sessions happen in your own home at a time that suits you, so there’s no commute, no car park, and no waiting room.

You’d tell a friend to sort this out. Same rules apply to you.
